Today we bring you one of the most mysterious and magical sites in Tuscany: San Galgano, telling obviously of the famous sword in the stone! San Galgano is situated near Siena, more precisely in Val di Merse.
The path to the abbey is already very suggestive, park the car along the avenue and walk through the green fields and you will find the Abbey of San Galgano before your eyes!
First, visit the Abbey, the majestic church of the XIII century with Gothic details that has as particularity to be without a roof, in fact only the walls are left standing!
You enter by paying a small ticket but you will enjoy the show worth the price! just imagine that raising your eyes you will not see the roof of the Abbey, but a spectacular sky above you; really very impressive! If you have the passion for photography or for events, we suggest a night visit, very often within the Abbey shows and concerts are organized, so you can listen to some good music and take some beautiful photographs.
Once you visit the Abbey you can continue the walk along a country road surrounded by total peace, and after a few minutes you reach a hill where there is the Hermitage of Montesiepi; Here it is kept the famous Sword in the Stone. Inside the small church, this rock will jump to your eyes where precisely is embedded the sword that is said to be that of Galgano Guidotti, legend has it that after the apparition of St. Michele, Galgano renounced to his aristocratic life retreating on the hermitage and is said to thrust his sword to use as a cross for his prayers.
Another element that adds an air of mystery to this lovely place.
